An overview of research on African Americans from the margins of New Castle County society, including patients at the Delaware State Hospital and those buried in the New Castle County Hospital (Almshouse)/Farnhurst Potter's Field Cemetery, the first two integrated cemeteries in Delaware.  A variety of heartbreaking and poignant stories recovered from newspaper accounts and research on ancestry.com, including George White (Delaware's only known lynching victim), Civil War veteran Benjamin Franklin George Washington Butler, Henry Hudson, the Maceys, the Frisbys, the Lones, the Hamilton sisters, and others.
